GTA Afternoon Highway Forecast

A very busy drive in store this weekend. Keep in mind that Lakeshore is closed by the EX Grounds for the Indy. Expect heavier than normal traffic along Queen and the Gardiner as a result. On the rest of the major routes, expect typically jammed summer Friday traffic, with the rush starting at 1:00pm.

400: Heavy going northbound off the 401 up to Hwy 9, with further delays if you're continuing into Cottage Country. Southbound, look for the usual jam up from Finch to the 401.

401: Heavy going eastbound from Mississauga Road to Mavis, 427 to Avenue, DVP to Kennedy, and Port Union to Stevenson. Westbound, look for the usual delays from the 404 to Yonge, and the 410 to Trafalgar.

403: Busy heading west from the 401 to Mavis. Eastbound will be slow through the bottleneck from the QEW to the 407, and in the collectors from Eglinton to the 410 split.

404: Northbound, slow going from the 401 to Major Mackenzie. Southbound, look for slowdowns from Steeles to the 401.

407 ETR: Not expecting significant delays EB or WB this evening.

409: Busy Eastbound from Kipling over to the 401. Westbound, look for backup on the ramp to the 427.

410: Slow northbound from the 401 to Queen. Southbound, you'll find it busy from Derry down to the 401.

412: No delays heading north or south.

427: Heading northbound, look for the usual heavy traffic from Dixon to the 407. Southbound, you'll encounter a minor slowdown on the ramp to the QEW.

QEW: Heading out towards Niagara, look for delays from 427 to Hurontario, 403 to Trafalgar, and Bronte to Brant. Eastbound, look for some on and off volume from Appleby to Bronte, and Winston Churchill to Hurontario.

Gardiner Expressway: Heavy going westbound from Jarvis to Park Lawn, and Kipling to the 427. On the eastbound side, look for delays from Lakeshore/Park Lawn to Spadina.

Don Valley Parkway: Heavy going northbound from Danforth to the 401. Southbound, look for on-and-off delays from the 401 to Lawrence after 5:00pm.

Transit

TTC: Construction has some buses and streetcars diverted from now until July 23rd.

  • 505 Dundas: Buses will divert both ways around the closed intersection from Broadview Station via, Broadview Avenue, Gerrard Street, River Street and Dundas Street.
  • 504D King: Buses will operate from Broadview Station to King Street East and Parliament Street.
  • Route 75: Detour southbound via Glen Rd and Maple Ave due to construction.
The Line 1 Yonge University Subway will be closed this weekend between St. Clair and Lawrence stations. Shuttle buses will be provided
GO Train: Kitchener Line track maintenance may cause delays up to 15minutes between Georgetown and Kitchener stations.

GO Bus: No planned or ongoing issues impacting bus service.
GTA municipal bus services: No major delays being reported as of this morning.

Flights

No major or ongoing issues being reported at Pearson or Billy Bishop (The Island) as of this morning. It's still a good idea to confirm your flight time before heading out.

Cottage Drive

It's shaping up to be a busy cottage drive as people head up north to enjoy the steamy weather someplace a little cooler. As usual, your best times to leave are going to be before 1pm and after 7pm, but here's what to expect for peak travel times.

Highway 400: Slow heading north off the 401 up to Hwy 9, with additional on-off traffic between 88 and 89. Look for things to start jamming again from Mapleview to the Hwy 11 split.

Highway 11: Slow going off the 400 up through Orillia and past Weber's. Things shouldn't look too bad though as you approach Gravenhurst and head off to Huntsville and beyond.

Highway 401: Heavy across the top of the city as you contend with the rush traffic. Look for jam ups past the airport up through the 400 over to Avenue. Those ramps to the 400 should be especially slow. The 407 is probably going to be your best alternative. Continuing further east, look for cottage traffic to start slowing again from Port Union to Stevenson. On the westbound side, you'll find delays 404 to Yonge.

Highway 12: Typically slow off the 401 and up through downtown Whitby to Hwy 7. The 412 is your best bet around that if you don't mind the tolls. Expect a fairly straightforward drive beyond that with some minor slowdowns through Sunderland. Things will jam up again past Hwy 48 and the Beaverton Superstore. Traffic eases off north of Brechin as you continue on towards Rama and Orillia.

Highway 35: Should be fairly lightly travelled as usual with some on-off volume from the 401 to the 115, and again through downtown Lindsay. Otherwise a clear shot to Haliburton.

Highway 404: Slow heading north off the 401 up to Major Mackenzie, then on-off traffic from there up through to Newmarket. Not bad along the extension but look for the usual backup on the ramp to Ravenshoe.

Highway 48: A clear drive north of Markham up through Mt Albert to Sutton. Look for some on-off volume rounding the bend and heading out towards Hwy 12. Continuing along Portage Road, not a bad drive up through Bolsover, out towards Balsam Lake and Hwy 35.
